Social Infrastructure Projects: A Review and a Glimpse of Philosophical Review

Abstract:

Social infrastructure projects in the context of construction industry are basically those buildings that serve the community at large. Cases in point are hospitals, schools, and community facilities. The infrastructure attracts less attention as compared to economic social infrastructure projects such as bridges, highways and mega infrastructure projects. Limited research is conducted on social infrastructure projects, not to mention the philosophical review of social infrastructure projects. This paper aims to bridge the research gap. This paper first comprehensively reviews the social infrastructure literature from various aspects and applications. Then, this paper reviews nine journal papers and one conference paper in the aspect of ontological, epistemology, and methodology. The preliminary finding reveals that ontological subjectivism, epistemological interpretivism, and qualitative analysis have dominant the social infrastructure domain. The limitations and future research directions are also discussed in this paper. The outcome can be used to improve general understanding of the body of knowledge.
