Abstract:
Paternity leave is a type of leave that enables fathers to spend more time with their child during the first days of the child’s life. According to Directive (EU) 2019/1158 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 on work-life balance for parents and carers and repealing Council Directive 2010/18/EU, this period should be at least 10 working days. The aim of this conference paper is to present key findings concerning societal attitudes towards paternity leave in the Czech Republic based on a questionnaire survey. Data on Czech society’s attitudes towards paternity leave were collected from May 2025 to March 2026 using an online questionnaire administered via the Google Forms platform. A total of 494 respondents, exclusively from the Czech Republic, participated in the questionnaire survey. The survey was distributed in Czech through social media and personal contacts. The only eligibility criterion for participation was parenthood, which resulted in a certain distortion of the age structure, with younger generations being underrepresented.
