Abstract:
One of the most important challenges of the current world is developing an effective mechanism to reduce the global warming effect and to strive for climate neutrality. The goal of this paper was to present activities implemented by Polish power engineering enterprises participating in the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) to reduce emission of air contaminants. The grounds for the assumed research method was the analysis of secondary sources in form of environmental statements. Environmental statements were downloaded from the Polish EMAS website. The selection of research sample was targeted, the research was complete and included 5 power engineering companies participating in EMAS in Poland, according to the register dated 18 Feb 2021. It has been found that analysed organisations most frequently implemented activities that involved: using modern technologies; modernisation of technology, plant and facilities; using flue gas treatment systems; emission monitoring and measurement systems as well as containment of processes. Modernisation activities particularly concerned flue gas treatment systems, boilers and power units in use. Participants of the study also implemented activities to reduce carbon footprint of energy and heat production, as well as development of renewable energy sources. This paper presents exemplary solutions, ready-to-use and feasible for other companies.
