Special Aspects of Transformation of Traditional Labor Market Models of the Leading Countries of Asia and Russia: A Retrospective Analysis

Abstract:

In current times, despite the inertia of the traditional labor market models of Japan, China and Russia, their gradual transformation is observed against the background of strengthening globalization processes, toughening competition in world markets, accelerating scientific and technological development. In Japan, there is a transition from the “lifelong hiring” model to the “pyramid scheme” model, in China an attempt is being made to return to the “economic miracle” model through targeted policies aimed at artificially depreciating labor costs, and in Russia there is a transition from an unbalanced model of labor market to the adaptive model of its development. In all the countries examined, the youth is the most vulnerable social group, the most sensitive to all the transformation processes taking place in the labor market. As a result, all the examined regions are faced with two problems: the trend of “delayed” unemployment and the aggravation of the conflict within the system of “principal-agent” relations. This paper reveals three features that are characteristic of modern Japanese, Chinese and Russian labor market models, the knowledge of which will allow regulatory entities of labor relations to mitigate the negative effects caused by the transformation of the considered models in the long-term prospects.
