Abstract:

Despite growing interest in enterprise portals, there is still a lack of knowledge on how to guide the complex development and implementation process of enterprise portals. In this paper we present the state of the art of portal engineering using the responses of portal integrators in Germany, with regard to the main players in a multi-layered portal value chain, the complexity of portal engineering and the stages of the implementation process. Based on six theses, representing the main issues when implementing enterprise portals, we can provide advice on how to improve the engineering and management of enterprise portals.
