Step-Wise Approach toward Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Implementation Success

Abstract:

This paper presents a step-wise approach toward ERP implementation success, since the success of ERP system is considered an important issue. This approach builds on ERP life cycle that contains five stages, namely: project preparation, technology selection, project formulation, implementation/development and deployment. Each stage involves key success factors (KSFs) that influence the ERP implementation success. To address the study objectives, a survey questionnaire was considered the most appropriate research method. It was sent to 74 companies that have been implementing ERP system for at least one year. The respondents were staff at management level, IT staff and users involved in the development and use of the ERP system. The survey received 248 responses from 740 quesitionnaires that were sent to the companies. A quantitative analysis was applied to identify the weighting of KSFs toward ERP implementation success. The ERP implementation success can be measured through five indicators, namely: system quality, information quality, service quality, tactical impact and strategical impact. The weighting of KSFs will be applied on each stage of ERP life cycle. The step-wise approach guaranteed each stage can move forward due to the weighting of KSF fulfillment.
