Strategic Direction as a Tool for Sustainable Operational Efficiency in Faith-Based Organizations in Nigeria: A Critical Review

Abstract:

Strategic direction entails articulating the organization's mission and vision, developing the organization's strategic goals, objectives, and coming up with a strategic plan. It enables strategic leaders to have the responsibility to explicitly display and explain the mission statements of their organizations which allow everyone to understand the overall direction of the organization. Because of this, this paper seeks to show how the implementation of strategic direction serves as a precursor to sustainable operational efficiency in the competitive religious environment by utilizing the faith-based organizations in Nigeria. A structured approach was used to determine the source of materials for review, and reviewed articles were combined to develop propositions in this paper. In order to address this issue, factors necessary for the satisfactory implementation of strategic direction were identified which include strategic intent, mission statement, vision statement, and objectives. Based on these findings, we recommend that leaders should endeavour to define directional policy and establish measurable goals to meet members and followers’ expectations and to improve on organizational sustainability. Future research could be focused on empirical studies of Christian faith-based organisations.
