Abstract:

Knowledge management system (KMS) is one initiatives that complementing organizational alternatives in managing knowledge using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by optimizing its knowledge assets (KA) for competitive advantage (Kok, 2007). Concept of Knowledge Management (KM), extracted from researchers since 1986 until recent years, has been attracting many organizations including higher education institutions (Wegner, 1986; Suhaimee et al, 2005; Ismail and Chua, 2006; Mohayiddin, 2007, Chawla & Saxena, 2016; Chipeta & Chawinga, 2017). KMS has capabilities as knowledge container, it also has been proposed to provide storage and easy accessibility to facilitate complex structure and function of higher education (Abdullah et. al, 2004, Abdul Rahman & Hamidi, 2006). Anyhow, those KMS frameworks and models from the past studies only provide suggestion of general knowledge content. What is lacking are the structure of the KA (Van Heijst et al. 1997) to be selected and included in any KMS initiatives. This study aimed at proposing KA Structuring Process conceptual framework for KMS designer to structure the knowledge in the KMS or for any other knowledge management initiatives that need to structure the KA as contents.
