Study on Agile Digital Transformation in Relation to Organizational Innovation

Abstract:

Uncertainty, fast change, volatility, market competition and technology advancement are the keywords of the last decade. This paper highlights the main elements of a doctoral research regarding the relationship between organizational innovation processes and the agile methodology. Organizations are faced with continuous change and are challenged to adapt innovatively to evolving requirements in order to survive in the market. As digitalization completely changed the performance scenarios of organizations, by introducing Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, big data and cyber security concepts, simply aligning with the technology usage may not be enough; the transition to organizational innovation requires a cultural change, focused on employees and customers, emphasizing the need for flexibility and agility. It is the employees themselves who can have the most impact on process acceleration and management facilitation, as they are involved directly in the process delivery. Hence, organizations are trying nowadays to build agile innovation based on processes, by linking the terms agility and innovation. The aim of this study is to develop a framework for future studies on the relationship between agile methodology, agile innovation, organizational innovation processes and digitalization. Based on a total of 100 publications, including recognized publishers and data sets at European level, in this study we strive to provide a holistic overview on past accomplishments and future agreements on the terms above.
