Abstract:

The paper represents an attempt to reveal the major causes of the shadow economy and corruption and also reflects a close relation between both phenomena. They are analyzed as substitutes or complementary activities in order to describe their influence upon the whole economy. Based on the measurement methods of the shadow economy, in the end it is presented its evolution in the European countries.
