Supply Chain Technology Management (SCTM) in the Malaysian Construction Industry: An Overview

Abstract:

The construction industry continues to grow in size and importance around the world. With the increasing cost of maintaining the development of a growing country like Malaysia, industry players continue to find ways to improve their profit margin as well as provide quality construction for the population. One costsaving aspect is in the management of the supply chain. It has been argued that the application of supply chain management (SCM) in manufacturing is potentially beneficial to be used in the construction industry. Even though there are unique characteristics of the construction industry that require special attention, technology can be used to alleviate these problems and be integrated into the SCM, thus giving rise to the concept of Supply Chain Technology Management (SCTM). This paper highlights the issues and practices of SCTM in the context of the Malaysian construction industry, as well the future directions of this viable cost-saving management practice.
