Sustainable Finance: A Bibliometric Analysis and Directions for Future Research

Abstract:

Environmental and social risks, and in particular those associated with climate change, are a critical current challenge, implying a growing research interest in the last years related to these topics. The sustainable finance arises from this need for change, promoting and supporting the transition to a new, more sustainable, resilient and circular economic model, supporting the implementation of some of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This chapter intends to contribute to the analysis of sustainable finance current state of knowledge, through a bibliometric review of the existent literature. Consequently, we describe the evolutional research studies published in the digital library Scopus, between 1990 and 2021. Based on the findings, we provide an analysis of the status quo, a summary of the existing gaps, and suggestions for future research directions.Â
