Abstract:
Selfie Journalism is a new phenomenon in the contemporary media practices that emerged first from the technological revolution of the 21st century and the proliferation of mobile devices cum digital platforms that made it possible for users to generate and publish (photographic or videographic)contents. One crucial imperativeness of this new journalistic option is the reconstruction of public sphere and contemporary reality, which made it similar to Citizen Journalism, except for the fact that the former is undertaken by professionals. This paper examined some issues that arise from the practice of selfie journalism, highlighting its pros and cons and making suggestions on how the advantages of this journalistic option could be tapped in a country like Nigeria.
