Testing Criteria for a Complex Assessment Method for Industrial Design

Abstract:

The commercial success of a new product is the result of many factors, one of which is its industrial design. In order to achieve a quality industrial design, it is necessary that during the development process the industrial design should be assessed with the help of the representatives of the targeted market segment. The literature offers some methods and several sets of assessment criteria. This paper presents the results of an experiment aimed at identifying efficient, clear and user-friendly assessment criteria, as well as clustering them into factors. The set of criteria were taken from the most complex assessment method, it was applied to two products of different industrial design, and the results were processed with Exploratory Factor Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis and descriptive analysis. After removing ineffective or unclear criteria, a new list of criteria has been obtained, improved by adding new ones.
