Testing the Validity and Reliability of Workplace Ostracism Scale (WOS) in South East Asia: Evidences from Pakistan.

Abstract:

This paper reports a study the aim of which was to examine the factor structure, convergent validity and reliability of Workplace Ostracism Scale –WOS developed by Ferris and Colleagues (2008) in South East Asian context. Data for this study were collected from two samples (n1 = 120 and n2 = 118) from various occupational groups (bankers, government officers, teachers, telecom professionals, sales managers) in Balochistan-Pakistan. Exploratory Factor Analysis-EFA and Confirmatory Factor Analysis-CFA were both run to examine the factor structure of WOS; whereas the convergent validity of the sacle was determined by computing the Average Variance Extraction-AVE, and its reliability or internal consistency was ascertained through Cronbach’s alpha statistic. Reliability and validity scores of both samples revealed that WOS had excellent internal consistency and good convergent validity in the South East Asia – the culturally different context than the context where WOS was developed–, and may thus be confidently used in its original form in South East Asia.
