The Agricultural Sector in Creating the Polish Bioeconomy – A Regional Approach

Abstract:

The development of research on the rational management of plant, animal and microorganism resources, together with the use of innovative technologies favoring their management efficiency, creates a new area of ​​activity called bioeconomy. The agriculture sector is of particular importance in the development of the bioeconomy in Poland. The positive effects of the bioeconomy in the agri-food sector can be considered as an increase in employment and income as well as security of supply. The regional level of bioeconomy is crucial for socioeconomic effects, especially in sparsely populated peripheral areas. To assess regional differentiation and indicate the specific features of the bioeconomy in Polish agriculture, the econometric model - panel regression model with fixed effects, in which the significant impact of individual features / effects of individual regions was demonstrated. The data for analysis were taken from statistical data from local data base (BDL), Central Statistical Office and the Main Inspectorate of Commercial Quality of Agriculture and Food (GIJHARS). The study covered the years 2005-2016.
