The Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector (A.G.R.I.) Project- Economic Reliability or Geostrategic Interest

Abstract:

In a world dominated by geopolitical, economic or political uncertainties, ensuring energy security has become a priority, both at state level, as well as for supranational alliances (EU, NATO). One of the main objectives of EU in ensuring energy security is the diversification of gas supply sources. After the Cold War, in the early XXI century, in the wide region of the Black Sea, were outlined several projects of natural gas transport to Europe from the Caucasus, among which we name: Nabucco, Blue Stream, South Stream and more recently, Turkish Stream. One by one, these projects have been abandoned or frozen. The only project that is ongoing and even expanded is the A.G.R.I. project.
