The Capabilities of Maintenance Management Using Big Data

Abstract:

Data collection applications are becoming increasingly important to manufacturing and maintenance processes. Large amounts of files are generated during daily operations and the abundance of files often paradoxically hinders the ability to extract useful knowledge. Furthermore, the large amount of data stored in often unconnected databases makes it difficult to manually analyze valuable knowledge for decision making. Today, new tools and techniques are needed that can intelligently analyze the collected information and provide useful knowledge for maintenance. This paper explores the role of data for maintenance functions and the situations where managing it incorrectly, can cause issues instead of providing solutions. In addition, it examines the types of information that are collected for maintenance management in manufacturing companies.
