The COVID-19 Pandemic and the Dissolution of the University Campus: Implications for Student Support Practice

Abstract:

Increasing the quality of internships has become an important concern for both universities and internship partners. Starting with the second part of March 2020 and with the expansion of the COVID 19 pandemic in our country, the internships of university students have been reoriented in the online environment. Following the experience of carrying out the internship activities, the feedback of tutors and students, as well as other stakeholders participating in the events or who answered various questionnaires implemented during the project, we detached a series of recommendations for improving student internship activities: internships should be conducted in a hybrid manner; universities together with practice partners should place more and more emphasis on developing students' soft-skills - direct or mediated communication techniques through online applications and devices; both universities and practice partners should accelerate the digitalization process in human resources learning and development processes; During the internships, video sessions should be integrated to simulate "real life" exercises, tutorials and role-playing games made online. The correlation and integration of the mentor's schedule with that of the students is the essential starting point in the learning process of the internship program.
