Abstract:

A survey of the key issues associated with the development in the European Union iron and steel industry and current situations of the main consumption sectors are described in this paper. This paper presents the EU steel market is seen becoming more balanced again during the 2nd half of 2009. This study gives a brief review of the literature on the global iron and steel industry in the European Union. It carries out a case study of the iron and steel sector consumption and discusses underlying barriers and possible solutions. This paper presents the dramatic impact of the economic crisis on the international steel market and shows that the situation will not improve significantly in the course of 2009. In the year of 2009, the impact of international financial crisis will be more apparent on China which is gradually integrating into the global economy.
