Abstract:
The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was proposed by China’s government in 2013 to strengthen China’s politico-economic leverage in the world. Through this strategy, trade, integration, funding and connectivity between China and 70 nations are being supported and promoted in Asia, Europe, and Americas. Azerbaijan is one of the countries which participated at the BRI initiative of China, and it has been enjoying a successful cooperation in regard to the development of transit corridors. Furthermore, Azerbaijan is the largest partner of China in the South Caucasus in terms of transit, investment and economic matters. The present state and future potential of economic cooperation between China and Azerbaijan within the BRI has been reviewed in this paper. It argues that China and Azerbaijan’s economic cooperation has been developing at a rapid pace with regard to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, in other words the Middle Corridor and the two-way launch of the Middle Transport Corridor is the prerequisite of China and Azerbaijan’s future comprehensive investment cooperation.
