The Dynamics of Community Participation on The Development of Tourism Potentials in An Ex-Gold Mine Area – evidence from West Java, Indonesia

Abstract:

This article discuss the impact of tourism development potentials to the local community. Bantarkaret village is in a midst of social change from mining-based to a tourism-based economy. The locals that were enjoying mining-based economy through informal jobs were losing their job. However, they find a new opportunity through a tourism-based economy that is initiated by the local ellites and ANTAM corp. Three prominent groups that influence the village’s tourism development. The first group is the ANTAM corporation, a state-own gold mine company. The second group is the local community that is affected the most by social change. And the third group is the local officials which hold political resources and authority.
