The Dynamics of the Vegetable Sector from the Perspective of the Conventional and Ecologicalal System

Abstract:

After the Second World War, the population has increased more and more, from 3 billion in the ’60s to more than 7.8 billion today. In this case, the agriculture production has to be more efficient and more productive. Over time, the need to produce more and feed a growing population has led to the identification of new solutions to meet these challenges. Starting from this, the present study proposes to make an analysis regarding the dynamics of vegetable sector in the last decade, from the perspective of the conventional and ecological system, based on the importance that have been gained by the ecological products and also on the fact that ecological area increased by 70% in the recent years. In this sense, our study is concentrating on a few indicators provided by Eurostat and starts with the share of ecological surfaces at the EU level, which has increase from 4% in 2007 to 7% in 2017. Beside this, we analyze indicators between 2012 and 2019, such as cultivated areas and production, both for conventional and ecological systems, for the main agricultural crops. Mostly, our research has been based on a quantitative analysis and has highlighted that all the European countries are basing their production more and more on ecological agriculture.
