The Effect of Leadership Style on Organizational Performance: An Empirical Study on Government Sector in United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to assess the influence of leadership style on organizational performance in United Arab Emirates (UAE). This research targeted executive managers, senior manager and strategic consultants in the UAE semi government organizations. The research was focused in Abu Dhabi Emirate, a sample size of 165 was selected from different semi government organizations using convenience sampling technique, were 142 respondents was completed the questionnaire giving a response rate of 86.1%. A five-point Likert scale questionnaire was used to determine the effect of leadership style on organizational performance. The structural equation modelling (SEM), AMOS, was used to test the hypotheses shown in the conceptual model of the study. The result shows that there is a strong positive relationship between transformation leadership and organizational performance (r = .724, p = .001); the four characteristics of transformational leadership idealized influence, individual consideration, inspirational motivation, and intellectual stimulation are correlated to organizational performance (r = 0.698, 0.714, 0.739, 0.787) respectively, while the idealized influence (II) was not a significant factor contributing to organizational performance. Leaders may need to focus on this factor to improve outcomes for UAE organizational performance.
