The Effectiveness of Group Coaching Interventions on Improving Student Life Balance

Abstract:

Profiling the level of student life balance holistically is an important aspect that needs to be identified by a guidance and counseling teacher before an intervention or therapy is given. This is because imbalances in students’ lives will be reflected by their behavior. Therefore, the results of this study found that the Wheel of Life is an effective tool to provide findings related to the level of balance of a student. While the coaching method using the Grow model is very effective to help students change their behavior. The findings of this study also successfully prove that the coaching method using the Grow model is useful to be one of the intervention models in guidance and counseling services in schools. This study also develops the elements of student life balance obtained as a result of a combination of the Malaysian Education Quality Standards Wave 2 (SKPMg2) model as well as studies by previous scholars. The elements of such life balance are the role of parents, peer influence, financial stability, level of health, formation of personal goals, spiritual stability, academic mastery in school and personality and discipline of students. This study was conducted using qualitative methods and using case study strategies. The data collection method used is by analysis of pre-test and post-test documents as well as session preparation forms, observations by subject teachers and interview sessions. The results of the study proved to show that the coaching method is not only beneficial to change the behavior of employees in the employment sector but also beneficial to a group of school students.
