Abstract:

The Carthaginian War Elephants Swarm Optimization (CWESO) method presented in this study is modeled after simplified tactics employed by Carthaginian War Elephants in combat. Using a novel method of communication and decision making, the swarm intelligence-based CWESO algorithm imitates the movement and behavior of an ancient army to provide the best outcomes in challenging optimization tasks. We test the performance of the CWESO algorithm to several known optimization algorithms on a set of benchmark problems in order to assess the effectiveness of the method. Findings reveal that CWESO is competitive with other algorithms in terms of convergence time and solution quality, illuminating the potential for swarm-based optimization algorithms to draw inspiration from historic military strategies.
