The European Union Trade in ITC in Services with the United States – Evidence from Statistical Data

Abstract:

The United States is the biggest trade partner of the European Union for the trade in ICT services. However, patterns in trade characteristics for the whole European Union might differ significantly between the EU Member States. Consequently, the aim of this research is to analyze trade patterns between the European Union and United States in ICT services, with specific emphasis on the position of individual EU member states in such trade and how it changed between 2015 and 2023. Using Eurostat data and comparative analytical methods, this study identifies EU Member States trade positions along with export competitive advantages during 2015-2023. Our findings conclude that most EU Member States are net exporters of ITC services, with the leading role of Ireland, however the high export volume is not a sufficient condition to maintain a good trade position and comparative advantage.
