The Habitability in Street in Bogota from a Media Observatory: Actions from the University Social Responsibility

Abstract:

In the face of the production of discourses-practices on the "phenomenon of habitability in the street" in Bogotá, to think of a Media Observatory is an academic commitment to build contextual knowledge, taking into account that "the observatories are born of the first conviction that the power that the media has today in our democratic societies does not correspond to an exercise that is always responsible for its mission. The media, like any other actor, also makes mistakes" (Herrera, 2006, p. 3). However, beyond judging the media, we will attempt to analyze how the media builds discourses around street living and how it reinforces institutional ideas to justify decisions or measures in the face of policies, programs and projects designed to benefit those who live on the street.
