Abstract:
Service sector is an important component of the global economy – a complex and dynamically evolving entity. In the globalizing economy, including the European Union countries and regions, the service sector importance in creating GDP or value added is growing. The employment number is increasing, however, this increase presents a different dynamics in the individual sections identified in this sector. The pace and direction of these changes result from many factors including economic, social, cultural and historical ones. A special role, due to the growing importance of knowledge in the economy, is played by the sections in which knowledge is intensely used. The purpose of the research carried out within this study was to identify and assess the changes in employment shares in the sections of knowledge-intensive services. The research procedure was based on the dynamic classification method. The studied objects were the European Union regions at NUTS 2 level. Due to the current availability of complete data, the analysis period covers the years 2008-2018.
