The Impact of ChatGPT Enterprise on Knowledge Management: Opportunities, Challenges and Implications

Abstract:

Traditional knowledge management (KM) systems often fail to provide dynamic and contextual access to information, leading to low adoption and fragmented practices. The rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI), particularly ChatGPT by OpenAI, marked a turning point by enabling natural language interaction and contextual comprehension. This paper examines the impact of ChatGPT Enterprise, launched in 2023, on enterprise KM strategies. A narrative literature review draws on academic research, technical documentation, and industry reports using terms such as ChatGPT Enterprise, knowledge transfer, AI ethics, and change management. Sources were selected for topicality, credibility, and regional diversity. ChatGPT Enterprise enables conversational interaction with corporate knowledge and integration with internal systems, offering personalised, real-time access to structured and unstructured content. Use cases show efficiency gains and improved knowledge sharing, though governance and cultural acceptance remain challenges. As ChatGPT Enterprise is newly introduced, empirical evidence is limited; longitudinal studies are required to assess its long-term impact on knowledge work. Implementation affects communication flows, role expectations, and trust in AI-generated knowledge, depending on digital readiness and safeguards. This paper provides one of the first structured analyses of ChatGPT Enterprise’s role in KM and offers guidance for AI integration in organisations.
