The Impact Of Coal Mining On The Local Communities And Enterprises

Abstract:

The effects coal mining has on the people who live nearby mining plants is hard to determine. The impact of each of the factors (noise, dust pollution, terrain deformation, damage to buildings, rock bursts, etc.) on people varies on a case-by-case basis. It depends on the individual predispositions and resistance to the aforementioned inconveniences. The negative effects of coal mining on people should be examined mainly in terms of discomfort and problems they cause with reference to using particular elements of the environment.

By managing the impact of a coal mine on the environment, social effects can be reduced. Assessing social and environmental impacts through strategic management also ensures goodwill from local business. Mining companies should also make efforts to reduce the environmental and social impacts of mining and minimize the environmental footprint of their operations throughout the mining cycle. The mining industry can become more environmentally friendly and socially sustainable by integrating practices that reduce the environmental impact of mining activities and implementing corporate social responsibility. This article characterises the impact of coal mining activity on the local community with reference to the quality and comfort of living. Seven significant factors of coal mining’s impact on living conditions have been chosen based on the source literature, and used for the questionnaire survey. A study of the effects of a nearby coal plant on small and medium-sized enterprises has also been conducted.
