The Impact of Foreign Direct Investments Upon the Cultural Dimensions of Romania

Abstract:

The study below follows the context, in which a former Eastern Bloc country transitioned from a command economy, to a free market one, as well as the substantial impact that the globalization process had on its economy and on its cultural dimensions. As the first stage of the research, this study presents the available literature review, an analysis on certain economic aspects, followed by the results for Romania and the Anglo-Saxon countries using the framework for cross-cultural communication developed by Gert Hofstede. This work provides a platform in gaining a deeper understanding of the implications of a major infusion of capital in a country and how it had started to change the symbols, heroes, rituals and values of a culture in a certain period of time.
