Abstract:
The article is devoted to the current issue of women’s combining paid employment and parental/family roles. The research was carried out within the conceptual framework of Work/Family Border theory, gender and job characteristics theories. The study aims to identify the impact of female teleworking on the institution of parenthood and fertility behaviour. The study was conducted by using sociological methods of collecting empirical information. The sample is represented by women aged 15–49 years old, permanently residing in the Russian Federation. The research method is formalized survey, conducted in April-May 2019 in 69 settlements of the Russian Federation. The novelty of the study consists in the following scientific results. We identified a high level of women’s motivation for teleworking in Russia, 42.6% of the women surveyed. We rated the attractiveness of working conditions for women when choosing a job, among which flexible working arrangements occupy a significant place. Empirically confirmed the social effectiveness of teleworking for the successful combination of paid employment and parental/family responsibilities by women in the Russian conditions. Described the relationship between women’s ability to work remotely and their motivation to give birth to a child. Determined priorities for the state regulation of female employment, taking into account the priorities of the demographic policy. The research findings are useful for researchers of labor market, for HR management of companies working in Russia and representatives of state employment administration.
