The Influence of Information Authenticity on the Propagation Process in Social Media

Abstract:

Nowadays, social media have become the primary spaces where information spreads. The sheer volume of platforms creates an appearance of information overload, making users susceptible to misinformation. The danger posed by disinformation activities can have real-life consequences, emphasizing the need to develop solutions that guarantee user safety on the Internet.

The paper conducts a comprehensive analysis of various social media sharing datasets. The results obtained support the hypothesis that the truthfulness of news influences the dissemination process in virtual social networks. These emerging differences can be utilized to develop solutions to detect and counteract disinformation activities on social media. Due to the constantly evolving field of generative artificial intelligence, it is essential to research solutions that are not solely reliant on the content of the information itself.
