Abstract:
The general context of this research was the flows of goods among countries. As widely traded products, flowers which are demanded and sold all over the world have drawn our special attention. The objective of this paper is to assess indicators, like the imports and exports in order to get a picture on the dynamics of the Romanian flower trade. Therefore, in this study we will try to link the trade performance to other variables. In that sense, focusing on the flowers sector, we have paid great attention to the average rate of growth and correlations among trade figures from data series of the four main categories of flowers, through their destinations and the countries we import these products from. The time series have been provided by the Romanian Statistical Yearbook and by the Ministry of Agriculture. The time series have spread out for a period of 10 years (2002-2011). The results have shown that average rate of growth has increased constantly, except for the USD / Lei exchange rate and for the total exports of flowers. Regarding the correlative analysis we have found that the pairs of variables analyzed are relatively strongly correlated. The only variables that showed no significant correlation coefficients were the data series of exchange rate for euros and exchange rate for the American dollars. The conclusion was that the exchange rates of major currencies have had their own dynamics and their influence was not found on the other variables considered in this study.
