Abstract:
This paper highlights issues related to the production and marketing of rapeseed in Romania. To reach the proposed goal, several relevant indicators were analyzed over the period 2012-2016. The analyzed indicators are: the area planted with rapeseed at both national and regional levels: rapeseed production at national and regional level; average yield per hectare of rapeseed at national and regional level; the average domestic price for the oilseed rape; exports and quantitative imports of rapeseed in Romania. The indicators analyzed in the paper recorded fluctuations from one year to the next. According to published statistical data, in the trading season 2016/2017, Romania ranked 9th among the top rapeseed producers worldwide. Domestic rapeseed consumption is much lower compared to domestic production, which leads to the rapeseed exports becoming more intense. Massive rapeseed exports directly contribute to achieving a surplus trade balance. The data used for the study was taken from the National Institute of Statistics and from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
