The Management of Burnout Syndrome and its Impact on Health Care Organizational Behavior

Abstract:

The physical and psychological stress of physicians, based on an imbalance between resources and demands, generates both physical and emotional exhaustion as well as depersonalization, which determine the burnout syndrome, also known as "the malady of our civilization."

In an organizational environment, the effect of Burnout Syndrome has a negative impact on the interpersonal communication relationships between physicians and physicians-patients and on the professional performance. The decreased level of professional satisfaction generates organizational dysfunctions in the shape of reduced work efficacy and efficiency, team cohesion, followed by an increased risk of professional mistakes.
