The organisational dimension of knowledge transfer between academic science and industry

Abstract:

The development of the private funding of academic science has many justifications. It is also the subject of questioning for the managers of university, to make compatible the private funding of science and the disclosure of scientific knowledge. In this article we will consider this question at the light of the experience of three laboratories of a French scientific university. In the three cases, laboratories are mainly financed by private funds. Our objective is to characterise the impact of industrial relations on the research and teaching activities of the teams we have met and to identify the legal, human, cognitive and organisational factors explaining the compatibility between academic research and the private funding of science.
