Abstract:
It is generally accepted that due to globalization, competition is becoming more intense and as organizations are now able to or forced to open newer markets with different paradigms, conditions, operating methods and requirements. As a result, many organizations are finding it necessary to rethink their Core Competences in order to survive in this new global environment. Although Knowledge Management (KM) has been around for some time, and has increasingly become an accepted management tool, it is yet to be seen by organizations as a necessary integral part of building Core Competences. Therefore, this paper aims to realize two objectives: Firstly to construct or develop an operational model for KM summarizing key findings and process in anticipation for its further examination in a number of contexts and relationships. Secondly, to examine and verify the need for organizations to give some attention to Knowledge Management (KM) as pre-requisite of building Core Competences and subsequently to be fully integrated into the overall approach to enhancing organizational performance.
