Abstract:

The According to Mohammad (2012), the students that populate today's classrooms are utterly different from those in previous generations, primarily as a result of the creation and advance of digital technology, including ICT. Author goes so far as to describe this shift in culture and mindset as a "singularity "—an event which changes things so fundamentally that there is absolutely no going back (2012, p. 35).

As a result of this advance in technology, it is necessary for teachers to become more familiar with the technological language and style of their students, since it assumed that most students are adept in the use of technology. Importantly, Mohammad (2012) did not advocate teachers sacrificing what is important, including developing good thinking skills in their students.

In particular, the advocates of the digital native concept, such as Mohammad (2012), suggest a shift to different teaching styles that can utilize ICT more effectively, such as moving away from the tradition step-by step approach to instruction that is more in parallel, with more random access, among other things Mohammad (2012). However, even Mohammad (2012).  did not claim to have all the answers regarding how this would work in practice (theory is obviously not enough). But, he and others are convinced that it is important to determine how best to integrate ICT into educational settings. Therefore, the purpose of this research study was to investigate if and how mobile devices could be used to support the required Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) for courses such as Foundation English Program at Qatar University (QU).
