Abstract:
This paper identifies the indicators for measuring the knowledge based economy’s drivers and conducts an analysis of Romanian society from this perspective, on the basis of a complex methodology. It outlines general features of the knowledge-based economy and the competitiveness of Romania compared with the European Union. The conclusions following the analysis show some differences between competitiveness of Romanian economy and of EU’s from the perspective of knowledge-based economy, but one can identify a rising trend in the improvement of the knowledge based economy's indicators during recent years. For Romania the transition to a knowledge-based society requires the placement of the research-development-innovation policy at the centre of its economic policy and generally, implementing restructuring measures of the economic, social and institutional environment. Only then can the perspectives of a stable knowledge-based society become real.
