The Russian Market Waste: Trends Analysis

Abstract:

The research is devoted to the analysis of the waste processing industry in Russia. The volume of waste generation and processing in the EU and Russia was estimated. In Russia, there is a tendency to increase the volume of generated production and consumption waste. Most of the generated waste is industrial waste. Coal mining is the most waste-intensive of all industries. In 2019, this industry generated 5.2 billion tons of waste, or 67% of all industrial waste in the country. It should be noted that most of this waste is reused. The main method of waste disposal in Russia is landfill, while global trends are focused on recycling and backfilling. For the waste trade market, the most significant direction in Russia can be considered the waste paper market. Despite the global trends of decrease in the volume of MSW formation per capita, the accumulation rate in Russia tends to increase. This is due to an increase in the level of housing improvement and an increase in the number of packaging materials. About 10% of municipal solid waste is recycled annually. However, changes in the waste processing industry in Russia create prerequisites for the development of the waste management market.
