The Social and Economic Benefits of Rural Tourism for the Romanian Village

Abstract:

The objective of the rural tourism, as alternative for the development of the rural areas, is the economic development through investment, both in infrastructure and education, thus contributing to the increase in employment and implicitly leading to an increase of the standard of living in the Romanian villages. The current situation of most of the Romanian rural space needs the active involvement of the local communities in preserving the small rural household and the traditional way of life, in order to achieve a complex and sustainable development. The implementation of the current rural development programme may lead to a diversification of the rural activities, to the creation of new jobs in the rural space, involving non-agricultural activities or investment in infrastructure and related services. In the present paper, we aim to present the economic and social benefits that the implementation of rural tourism may bring to the Romanian village.
