The Social and Personal Determinants and Factor Analysis for Traditional Food System in Czech Republic and Ukraine

Abstract:

The Czech Republic represented the beginning of development local market food system and increasing demand for organic foods product. There is some evidence that culture and ecology influence dietary choice, consumer attitudes to the environment, health issues related to food purchasing preferences for organic and local consumption preferences. The social and personal elements are involved as determinants of how culture and ecology influence the dietary choice. These determinants are based on food availability; food selection; biological need. Social and personal elements in food selection include such functions as whether the food will be shared, as at social events or other personal events; and whether the food is used to express individual, family, and group identity with a culture. The food is often used as an ethnicity marker. This study compared three domains of very well know food related lifestyle concept: (1) usage situation; (2) desired consequences; (3) meal preparation.  The results of this study indicated that usage situation domains explained more of the variance in culture difference than the other two domains. This feature gave the opportunity to explore for the first time the background information from the view of public health and economics perspective to implement strategy for public sector to shift consumption patterns. These findings have an implication for the industry. In the future, the social and healthy lifestyle changes could improve the prevention of non-communicable diseases. The prevention is needed and will provide the benefit of cost savings and provides social returns in terms of a better care system for patients it is important for health public system and hospital industry.
