The Students’ Satisfaction with their Studies and the Start of a Career in Engineering

Abstract:

In this world that is constantly changing, today’s graduates of engineering studies will solve tomorrow’s problems. But as young people who begin their academic studies, the engineering students have many expectations in terms of their studies and their future career. Which are these expectations? Which is their desire for their future job? And above all, how many of them will find a job in accordance with their personal desires or choices? The research work presented in this paper tries to find some answers to these questions. The aim of our study being to identify the degree of students’ satisfaction given by completing a bachelor degree and starting a career in the engineering field. A sample of 112 students from University Politehnica of Bucharest, enrolled at seven faculties, answered to a questionnaire regarding their perceived satisfaction in following engineering studies and performing in this field. Analysing the results, it can be stated that the motivation for choosing engineering studies is determined by passion, even if some of the respondents feel disappointed or confused after the first year of studies. Most of the respondents want to pursue employment in their studies field or they already have a job in this field
