Abstract:
Results of a psycholinguistic experimental research of technical term identification are discussed. The aim of the experiment was to determine the degree of notion integrity in the mind of a multi-lingual individual: native speakers of Burmese, speaking also English and Russian at different levels of fluency. The purpose of this study is to identify the level of concept formation and the language which serves as a support for term identification. The study also aims to set the directions of word interaction of three languages which examinees know. The research confirms that support for identification of foreign term is a word in that language in which it was learned. As a result of term mastering there are strong links at the level of the word form. At the same time there can be difficulties to use the term or to explain its meaning in the native language.
The problem of languages interaction is investigated in the context of different scientific paradigms, in particular, sociological, sociolinguistic, linguistic, and psycholinguistic and others. In this article languages interaction is examined at the level of individual consciousness, i.e., from the psycholinguistics point of view. Psycholinguistic approach to the study of languages interaction assumes a study of those changes, which occur in the consciousness of individual, who manages several languages or who studies several languages.
