The Wine Sector of Romania, Challenges and Perspectives in the Context of Increasing Competitiveness

Abstract:

Romania has a rich history regarding vineyard cultivation and wine production since ancient times. Over the course of history, the country has managed to kept its identity as a wine producing country. At present, Romanian wines are gaining ground in international markets, their quality allowing them to compete with top quality wines produced by other wine-producing countries. Among the wine processors, Romania occupies the 11th place on global level and the 5th place in Europe, after France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Portugal. The present article aims to highlight the current situation of Romania and the future challenges and perspectives that the wine sector may face, while presenting the global context of wine markets at international levels and focusing on the Romanian wine production and trades.
