Theoretical Assumptions of the Research Project “Start-up Project Management Methodology” in the Context of Start-up Development Trajectories

Abstract:

The rationale for the research stems from an increasing interest in start-ups among academics and practitioners. From the first perspective, we observe a limited number of papers on the management of start-up projects and prevailing conviction that project management methods insufficiently address the business aspect of such projects. From the other viewpoint, we witness robust investments in start-up infrastructure and start-ups themselves. However, due to their specific features, a high share of start-ups does not survive two years. We believe that securing longevity and profitability of a start-up project requires the adoption of an adequate assumptions regarding to e.g. business models, development paths based on organizational orientations or failure management. Research conducted on innovative companies can contribute to improving their business in the context of project management. The empirical research will be conducted in start-ups from various European countries to unify their results and the possibility of issuing recommendations for young companies. research is going to be supported by the following methods: documentation analysis, open interviews, interviews using a semi-structured questionnaire and surveys. The research will use the target selection method considering respondents’ availability to participate in the longitudinal research, covering three runs in three years. Since the scientific area of the research covers the theory of organization and management, decision-making and strategic management, we will use adequate approaches and methods from the aforementioned fields.
