Theoretical Perspective on Email Users Behavior of using Technology Threat Avoidance Theory

Abstract:

Spam is a most popular threat in the communication via Internet or mobile. This paper describes the behavior of email users in avoiding spam threat in email as a popular channel of communication. Based on the Technology Threat Avoidance Theory (TTAT) it was enhanced with the ethics perspectives. It focuses more on email user perception towards spam issue personally. The enhanced research model able to explain the email users behavior in avoiding the spam email as a threat. Several factors has been identified as perceive severity, perceive susceptible, safeguard effectiveness, safeguard cost, self-efficacy and IT ethics. The result of this study will reveal the behavior of email user in avoiding the spam email threat. In addition, the results also explain the reasons behind the chosen coping method. The finding will provide the knowledge to the ISP or ESP, decision maker and individual to build anti-spam society.
