The Organization of Reverse Student Mentorship in Scientific Sphere

Abstract:

At present the issue of involving students in research and development activities is topical for every university. It is noted that mentoring is a well-known method of professional formation and development both for workers and specialists. In recent years it has also become applied in the system of student self-government: senior students help junior students. At the same time, even well-proven forms of work need to be updated and modernized. In this connection, a form of reverse student mentoring has been proposed for application: its essence and features have been revealed. The method of organization of this form of student mentoring is presented, each of the four stages of the method is revealed. The necessity of using the matrix of identifying potential mentors, which is based on two bases: the level of competence and motivation, is justified. The necessity to consider the competences for each particular type of research work is especially noted, since one type of work can be very well mastered by students, while the other cannot. An experiment was conducted in which 2-4 year students took part. The objective data obtained after a year of purposeful work allowed to ascertain the improvement of the number of research works of students, their quality, as well as the increase of interest and involvement of students in the scientific sphere.
